French, ca. 1860s. Instructions inside box lid signed M.M. Leydet et Rampal. This portable grain scale has a pillar which serves as a fulcrum as well as another pillar which serves as a rest for the beam end.  Both pillars fold down and are mounted on a pivoting wooden extension which then folds inside the box. The 2-part beam is made of steel, and the pillars are of steel and brass. Patented in 1863.
