| Cast iron construction with a spring loaded rack and pinion mechanism driving the dial pointer. Brass quadrant dial with capacity to 110 lbs. Brass name tag affixed to housing reads, SALTER'S/ Quadrant Balance." Patented by John Silvester in 1861, and made by his employer, Geo. Salter, West Bromich, England. In the 20th C, these scales were no longer approved for trade use, and gradually disappeared. Condition: XFine. |
