BD1:  English Cased Scale


English scale in beech wood box, 17th century. Box is 21.7 cm long x 10.4 cm wide x 3.7 cm high, and steel scale beam is 14.5 cm long with 5.8 cm diameter brass pans. Elaborately tooled lid, with xx's defining three panels; in each panel is a crowned rose. Pans are stamped with a heart having the initials B.W. Identified by Lavagne. Reference: Sheppard and Musham.
